WhoRepresentsYou is a civic transparency platform that provides UK citizens with comprehensive, accessible information about their Members of Parliament. We believe that democracy works best when citizens have easy access to accurate information about how their representatives vote, what they say, and their financial interests.
Our platform aggregates data from official government sources to present clear, factual information about MP voting records, speeches, expenses, and registered interests. We make this complex data understandable and searchable, helping citizens make informed decisions and hold their representatives accountable.
Founded on principles of transparency, accuracy, and political neutrality, WhoRepresentsYou serves as an independent resource for civic engagement across the UK political spectrum.
Methodology
Data Collection Approach
- All data is sourced directly from official UK Parliament APIs and government databases
- We do not supplement official data with third-party sources or interpretations
- Raw data is processed to improve accessibility while maintaining accuracy
- No editorial content or subjective analysis is added to official records
Update Frequency
- MP profiles and contact details: Updated daily
- Voting records: Updated within 24 hours of parliamentary divisions
- Financial interests: Updated weekly from the Register of Members' interests
- Speeches and questions: Updated daily from Hansard transcripts
- Expenses data: Updated quarterly following IPSA publications
Accuracy Standards
- All data undergoes automated validation against source APIs
- Discrepancies or missing data are flagged and investigated monthly
- Users can report data inaccuracies through our feedback system
- We maintain detailed logs of all data updates and corrections
- Historical data is preserved to maintain voting record integrity

On the roadmap
Some areas explored in early design work are not yet built, either because we do not have a reliable data source or because the feature needs an accounts system we have not shipped. We would rather show this list plainly than fabricate placeholder data for a named MP.
- Tax domicile — no public API; would require a manually sourced, editorially reviewed dataset. Not on public record for the vast majority of MPs.
- Property & entity ownership — needs cross-referencing Land Registry / Companies House against MPs and family members by name, which risks false matches for a real person. Not implemented.
- Public expenditure (IPSA) — distinct from financial interests (inbound); not yet ingested.
- Bills & committees — Bills API and Committees API integration planned, not yet built.
- Accounts: follows & saved comparisons — would require authentication and GDPR-considered storage of a reader's postcode/follows; not yet built.
